Current information on developing local literacy plans and data submission requirements
(April 9, 2012 -- Roseville, MN) Reading well by third grade is one of many developmental milestones in a child’s educational experience. Providing quality curriculum, instruction, and assessments is the foundation for developing comprehensive systems of support for all learners. The resources and information provided here are available for Minnesota schools to use as tools in developing comprehensive literacy programs and practices that lead to increased student achievement at all levels.
Data Submission Information Minnesota Statute 120B.12 requires all public schools to submit data from locally determined literacy assessments by June 1, 2012 for students enrolled in Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2. The data will be submitted to the MN Department of Education (MDE) using the Excel Template accessible through the Reading Well Web page or the MDE Data Submissions page.
Please remember to download the template, and follow the directions to add the appropriate information before entering any data. Then use the submission instruction document as a step-by-step guide to upload the district information through a secure server.
Local Literacy Plan Development Districts are encouraged to use the Local Literacy Plan Checklist as a template for developing or refining local literacy plans consistent with the requirements outlined in Minnesota Statute 120B.12 .
MDE has also recently posted a Self-Assessment Rubric as a tool for districts to use in order to evaluate compliance of draft literacy plans before posting on district webpages. Both documents are available on the Reading Well Web page. District-wide local literacy plans need to be posted on district homepages by the end of the 2011-2012 school year.
