Voices that Lead is a powerful, one-day workshop designed by BIPOC leaders for school administrators, offering a bold and hopeful launch into the new academic year. Rooted in connection, inspiration, and courageous leadership, this dynamic gathering centers and amplifies the voices of leaders who are shaping the future of education—with purpose, authenticity, and an unwavering belief in what’s possible.

Principal EL
Dr. Salome Thomas-EL, a longtime educator and school leader, currently serves as a K–8 principal in Wilmington, DE. Since beginning his career in 1987, he has earned national acclaim for his work as a teacher and chess coach at Vaux Middle School in Philadelphia, where his students became Eight-Time National Chess Champions.
He is the author of the best-selling books I Choose to Stay (optioned by Disney) and The Immortality of Influence, as well as co-author of three books on leadership and teacher retention. His latest book, Meet Their Needs, and They’ll Succeed, was released in April 2025.
Dr. EL has appeared on CNN, C-SPAN, NPR, Good Morning America, and Oprah Radio. He holds a doctorate in Education Leadership from Wilmington University and has studied school leadership internationally. He’s been recognized with numerous honors, including the Marcus A. Foster Award, the University of Pennsylvania’s MLK Award, and was named an “Inspiring American Icon” by Reader’s Digest.
